8/23/2023 0 Comments Filipino alphabet abakada![]() ![]() ![]() The most common verbs in English end in the z sound-is, was, does, has, etc. Filipino, or some refer to it as “Tagalog”, is the national language of the Philippines and is the most widely spoken tongue today. “Baybayin” is actually a Tagalog word which literally means “to spell”. The conventional exceptions (with considerable variations) are proper names, which usually retain ñ and their original Spanish or Hispanicised spelling (Santo Niño, Parañaque, Mañalac, Malacañan). In Tagalog, Visayan, and other Philippine languages, most Spanish terms that include ñ are respelled with ny. Today, the Modern Filipino alphabet is used, and may also serve as the alphabet for all autochthonous Philippine languages. ![]() The Modern Filipino alphabet is primarily English alphabet plus the Spanish Ñ and Tagalog Ng digraph these are alphabetised separately in theory. The Philippines alphabet exist only out of 20 letters, there is no c, v, f, x, q, or r. The result sounds much like the letter “R” said by someone speaking in Spanish. You produce the Filipino “R” sound by flicking your tongue off of the roof of your mouth to create a softer, “rolling” R sound. The Abakada alphabet was an “indigenized” Latin alphabet adopted for the Tagalog-based Filipino national language in 1940. ![]()
